How to import data using the DOI number of a document in Mendeley?
Mendeley enables users to efficiently import bibliographic data by leveraging a document's unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) number. This functionality allows for quick population of reference details directly within the Mendeley Reference Manager software.
Importing via DOI requires pasting a valid DOI into the designated field within Mendeley's "Add Entry Manually" interface. For successful import, the DOI must be active, resolvable, and associated with metadata provided by CrossRef or DataCite, the primary DOI registration agencies. Mendeley's system queries these services via the internet to retrieve standard bibliographic information such as author names, title, journal, publication year, and volume/issue. Note that exceptionally new DOIs or those lacking comprehensive metadata might require manual entry supplementation after import. Verification of the imported data before saving is essential.
To implement DOI import, access the "Add New" button and select "Import via DOI". Paste one or multiple DOIs into the dialog box provided. Clicking "Add" triggers Mendeley to retrieve and display the parsed bibliographic data for each DOI; carefully review and edit entries if necessary before saving them to your library. This method facilitates rapid, accurate citation generation and management for academic writing and research projects, especially when handling multiple references obtained through database searches.
